Changing the JVM Version
Included with Native Installers

There are so many variants of the JVM that the easiest way to create a JVM bundle that meets your needs is to let JExpress build it.

  1. Start JExpress with the Advanced user interface.
  2. Move to the JVM tab.
  3. Click the sub-tab for the OS that JExpress is currently running. If you want to create the bundle for an OS that you aren't currently operating, then install JExpress on the desired OS and continue with these instructions.
  4. Click the Create JVM distribution button. If you're currently using a Mac, this button won't be available because Apple does not permit you to distribute their JVM.
  5. Enter the name of the Java home directory.
  6. Enter the version for the Java distribution. Be sure this is the same as when you type the "java -version" in the Java home directory.
  7. Click OK.

JExpress creates a distributable JRE for the OS you are using. It may take a few minutes to create the bundle so be patient, but if there are any errors, you'll see a message. Otherwise, the distributable file will be in the OS's platforms subdirectory and the version number will be updated in the Included field.

You can copy the platforms subdirectories between machines so if you normally build your installers on Linux, but you created a new JRE for Windows, then you can simply copy the platforms/Windows subdirectory from the Windows machine to your Linux machine. Either exit JExpress on the Linux machine after you copy the platform files or click the Reload button next to the "Parent of the platforms directory" label to reload the settings.
