Sun's website reports this as a known issue on Red Hat Linux 6.1.
Sun has not tested on later versions of Linux so it's highly likely
that the challenge persists. Apparently the lack of support is
because the default installed Japanese TrueType fonts do not have
Halfwidth Katakana glyphs (see Sun's Bug #4299902).
Also, note that Japanese characters cannot be displayed properly in TextArea and TextField when using "MonoSpaced-Bold" font style (#4309204). This problem can be corrected by changing a line in the font.properties.ja file. Please refer to the BugParade report for more details. |
